Today we purchased train tickets for our trip to Rennes. We'll be traveling by TGV, the French high speed train system. We have an hour and a half layover in Lyon. Our cats, Danny and Tommy will travel with us in carriers in the cabin. They ride for just 7 euros each. We leave on November 22. I'm glad that we took a couple of train trips last year. It lets us know what to expect.

There were some Halloween decorations out as we walked around town today. Not as much as in the states. We stopped at a candy store to pick up a couple of treats. John took pics of the window displays.

This was in the window of Quick Burger, a fast food restaurant. A scarecrow in the candy store window. Nice reflections of the opposite side of the street. Lots of individual details goes into
each piece of candy.
Cute little Halloween witch. A French Halloween wouldn't be complete
without chocolate sardines!

We been very busy getting ready for our move to Rennes. It is a lot less complicated than our move from Eugene, Oregon to Nice, but still it has its trying moments.

We've picked a mover. Les déménageurs bretons. They had the best estimate, a good reputation and will store our stuff in Rennes until we find an apartment. They will deliver boxes to us on 7 November so that we can start packing. Until then we are working on our getting-ready-to-move-but-non-packing-stuff like harvesting our balcony onions, taking down pictures and filling in the little holes in the wall, making lists of utilities to cancel and addresses to change.

We are also trying to fit in seeing some things in the local area that we have yet to see. We hope to get to the International Museum of Naive Art and Musée Renoir de Cagnes-sur-Mer.

We have temp housing (pet friendly) for us in Rennes booked.

We have a lot of leads for apartments in Rennes to check out once we get there.

We are scheduled to leave Nice on 22 November. Democrats Abroad is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner, but we will miss that. We might be celebrating Thanksgiving at our favorite Mexican restaurant in Rennes.

We are excited about our move to Rennes and our new life there, although we will miss our Niçoise friends. We will definitely stay in touch with them.

Watch this great video of the city center of Rennes (where we want to live).

The weather in Nice, like in most places, has been weird. The last two summers were very unpleasant. This year's summer was hot, dry, horribly humid, and at times smokey. But now, well into autumn, we still have no rain. Usually September and October are very wet in Nice but not this year nor last year.

With devastating hurricanes and voracious wildfires back in the states it is a bit ungracious of us to complain about our weather which is often beautiful. I saw today that several California coastal communities are suffering a heat wave of 105 - 110℉ (and it's nearly Halloween!). Here in Nice the weather has been comfortable since August 31.
